Rankday Typeface for Halloween-Themed Branding

I was tasked with creating a brand identity for a small boutique that specializes in seasonal decor, and the first thing I did was open a blank brand board. The client wanted something that felt spooky but still approachable—perfect for their autumn and Halloween collection. That’s when I came across Rankday.

The moment I saw Rankday on my screen, I knew it had potential. It’s a display font with a horror character, designed specifically for Halloween and October-November themed projects. The bold, jagged edges and eerie shapes immediately made me think of jack-o-lanterns, haunted houses, and midnight shadows. It wasn’t just a font—it was a mood.

A Spooky Logo in the Making

I started by sketching out some logo ideas. The first mockup used a simple sans-serif font, which looked clean but too neutral for the vibe they wanted. Then I swapped it with Rankday. The result was instant. The font added an edge to the name “Crimson Harvest,” making it feel like a secret invitation to a mysterious event.

I tested it in different weights and sizes. The heavier styles worked well as a main logo, while the lighter variations were great for accents or subheadings. I even tried using it in all caps for a more dramatic effect on packaging labels.

Rankday on Packaging and Brand Materials

Next up was the product packaging. The boutique sells hand-painted candles, spooky-themed mugs, and DIY decoration kits. I needed a font that would stand out on the labels without overwhelming the design. Rankday fit perfectly. Its horror character gave the products a sense of intrigue, and it didn’t clash with the warm, earthy tones of the packaging.

I also used Rankday on social media graphics. A post promoting a new line of Halloween masks featured the font in a large banner at the top, paired with a subtle serif font for the caption. The contrast made the text easy to read while keeping the spooky theme consistent.

For printed marketing materials, like flyers and posters, Rankday became the headline font. It commanded attention and set the tone for the event, whether it was a pumpkin carving class or a haunted house tour.

Designing with Rankday: Readability and Mood

One thing I noticed early on was how Rankday affects readability. Because it’s a display font, it works best for short-form text rather than long paragraphs. That’s why I avoided using it for body copy. Instead, I reserved it for headlines, taglines, and logos where its unique style could shine without causing eye strain.

Its personality is unmistakable—dark, edgy, and slightly menacing. This helped shape the brand’s perception. The boutique wasn’t just selling decorations; it was offering an experience. Rankday played a big role in communicating that feeling through visual hierarchy and brand consistency.

When it came to pairing fonts, I found that combining Rankday with a clean sans-serif like Helvetica or a modern serif like Playfair Display created a nice balance. The contrast between the two styles kept the design from looking too chaotic while maintaining the spooky aesthetic.

Testing Before Committing

Before finalizing the brand system, I made sure to test Rankday in various scenarios. I checked how it looked on a shop sign, business cards, label stickers, homepage hero sections, Instagram posts, and product mockups. Each time, I adjusted the spacing and color to ensure it worked well in different contexts.

I also considered the file formats and commercial licensing. Since the boutique plans to use the font in both digital and print materials, having access to OTF and TTF formats was essential. The font’s multilingual support was another plus, ensuring it could be used for any international promotions down the line.

Finally, I made sure to explain to the client why Rankday was the right choice. It wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about aligning the font’s personality with the brand’s goals. They loved how it brought a sense of mystery and excitement to their visuals.

Rankday proved to be more than just a font for Halloween. It became a key element in shaping the boutique’s identity, helping them stand out in a competitive market. Whether you're designing for a seasonal event, a themed brand, or just looking to add some flair to your next project, Rankday offers a unique way to bring your creative vision to life.
